What do you consider a lot of miles. I started using synthetic in my 04 1200c Sporty at my 20k mile service. Now have almost 23k miles. What is a lot of miles for a motorcycle?

Is slick 50 even still made, I know its a additive and NOT a brand of syn oil. I notice that he never mentions that changing to synthetic oils on higher milage motors cause oil leaks on motors that were use to standard oils. One thing i have noticed after working in motorcycle shops for years is that the harley transmissions dont last as long with the syn3 that harley recommends as they did with good old 80w90 semi-syn oil, i know people with over 100k on old oil in the trans and still going!

Slick 50 is not a “brand” of synthetic oil, it’s an oil additive. When it was first introduced 30 years ago it actually had solid PTFE in suspension, which was not good for engines. It was basically snake oil with lots of unsubstantiated claims about what it could do.While it’s true that modern Slick 50 probably won’t hurt your engine, any benefits from using it are dubious, IMO, and a waste of money.

I’m a certified harley tech and I own my own shop now I got tired of all the corporate bullshit. I have proof that H-D syn3 is actually a worse lubricant than their conventional oil. On that same subject AMS oil is rediculously expensive. From personal experience I suggest using Lucas or Royal Purple.

oh, ok..it just seemed kinda strange, all that talk about keeping the “rubber down” and “lubrication”, “performance”, not to mention “strokes”, stuff lke that, thought there was some sexual codes being used. not to mention he says “its not gonna hurt you to try it once” a well known quote guys use to talk women into anul sex. i still laugh when he says “keep the rubber side down” though.lol
